The Greatest Faith Ever Known: The Story of the Men Who First Spread the Religion of Jesus and of the Momentous Times in Which They Lived
Published in Paperback by Image Books (February, 1990)
Authors: Fulton Oursler, April Ousler Armstrong, April Oursler Armstrong, and Fulton Dursler
Average review score:

The best book I've ever read
I picked this book up at a resale shop on vacation just to have something to do in my spare time. The moment I read the first page, I was hooked! The author brings the story alive; in fact I found myself holding my breath while turning the page to find out what happens next. I'm not that Bible literate so this book explains so many facets of the early Christians that I just didn't know. It would be a great book for someone just beginning their Christian journey or for someone wanting to educate themselves on their faith.

Guilty of Everything

Drunk, Cold, Poor But Happy!
The First, I've found, but hopefully not the last book about the Vancouver Rock'n'roll scene. Modernette's Bass Player Buck Cherry(John Armstrong) lets us know his experiences of not wanting to enter the grind of an ordinary life. Guitar lessons, 7 Elevens, Touring. Vividly descriptive, with all the mess, beer & music rightfully in it's place. Things may not have turned out the way he might have wanted, but This guy's no loser or Quitter. I admired these guys for taking it on the road in a Very different Punk Rock world than what we have today. I will be on the look out for those Lost Canadian punk records & future books. My home now seems more empty without them.

A PEEP INTO THE MOST UNDERRATED SCENE EVER
as guitarist/singer for the powerpop/ punk legends the MODERNETTES...he gives you a candid sordid drunkseye veiw of the fertile and psychotic late 70s-early 80s vancouver canada punk/indie scene. vivid and detailed and a hell of a fun ride thru the wastlands of pre-MTV music america. fans of D.O.A, SUBHUMANS, POINTED STICKS and many canadian others need this book...as well as the out of print MODERNETTES retrospective disc "get it straight" on ZULU records. start here first.

A Handbook of Human Resource Management Practice
Published in Paperback by Kogan Page Ltd (September, 1999)
Author: Michael Armstrong
Average review score:

A very handy handbook on HRM.
I'd rate this book a must have for anyone who is remotely involved in HRM. Line managers and supervisors will be well advised to keep the book handy. It is a handbook you can dip into and get a quick introduction to any subject related to Human Resources Management. It may not cover some topics in depth as one would like but it captures the essence and key ideas about the topics. It is indeed a classic. For those who may be looking for something hands-on, you wish to look at Mr Armstrong's other book, "How to be an Even Better Manager", which is a complete A-Z of proven and essential skills. With the two books, you should have a fairly good grasp of HRM matters.

A handbook of management techniques

My Personal "Manager's Bible"
I've spent 2 weeks in Tulsa's main library browsing (all !) books on the subject just to choose one to go buy for a refference on, well... everything. Nothing came close to that on packing so much on-the-point info with brevity. It's an outline of everything, going just as deep as needed for a refference book. Too bad it went out of print.

Hannah the Hippo (Self-Awareness Series)
Published in Paperback by Learning Works (February, 1991)
Authors: Linda Schwartz and Beverly Armstrong
Average review score:

A lesson in self acceptance
This wonderful little book tells the story of Hannah the Hippo, who wishes to be something she is not, until she finally discovers that she is perfect just the way she is. The concept is not new, but it is presented in a charming story that young children enjoy and can relate to. A valuable lesson that we all should learn.

I, Dreyfus
Published in Audio Cassette by Isis Audio Books (May, 2002)
Authors: Bernice Rubens and Gareth Armstrong
Average review score:

A compelling read
This is a gripping novel highlighting deep-rooted prejudices and social charcteristics which many prefer to keep buried, if we admit their existence at all. The predicament which surrounds the central character mirrors and draws upon a historical case but the plot is modern and original.

The story unfolds in a refreshing blend of forms - letters, journal accounts and third person narrative and the characters are realistic to the point that it's possible to forget you're reading a fictional account.

This is an exploration of what it means to be Jewish in the present day and the consequences of biases which lie unspoken. As a non-Jewish reader, I found it a remarkable and stimulating tale, a protest, a lament, an accusation, a defence, an elegy, a vindication.

I couldn't stop turning the pages to find out what could possibly happen next - definitely one to read in a single sitting.

If I Only Had a Horn : Young Louis Armstrong
Published in Library Binding by Houghton Mifflin Co (September, 1997)
Authors: Roxane Orgill and Leonard Jenkins
Average review score:

Excellent picture book biography of the jazz musician.
One of the best picture book biographies I've seen, the rich text and earthy pictures evoke the soul of the jazz artist, pictured here as a boy. A lovely introduction to a jazz master for very young readers from six years and older.

In the Spirit of Fluxus
Published in Hardcover by Walker Art Center (March, 1993)
Authors: Janet Jenkins, Elizabeth Armstrong, Andreas Huyssen, Simon Anderson, Joan Rothfuss, Walker Art Center, Kristine Stiles, and Bruce Jenkins
Average review score:

"Coffee cups can be more beautiful than fancy sculptures"
"Long long ago, back when the world was young-that is, sometime around 1958- a lot of artists and composers and other people who wanted to do beautiful things began to look at the world around them in a new way (for them)." In the spirit of Fluxus is a great starting point for exploring a time when Art still occurred in movements. Fluxus was an exciting, and for some, a confusing period that looked at the objects in front of them as Art objects and asked why isn't it Art, why isn't this music? It exclaimed that the sound of one's shoe tapping on the surface of a puddle makes beautiful music that people take for granted and overlook.

This book provides a complete picture of a generation of creating that forever changed the face of Art, and the way one views Art. Packed with full size pictures of performance stills, reproductions of actual printed pieces that were freely handed out like flyers and Art exibition photos, it sucked me in and actually made me look around and really see. It is a well written book that is easily accessible and an enjoyable read.

In Their Own Way
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (September, 1990)
Author: Thomas Armstrong
Average review score:

A MUST for any parent with a "learning disabled" child.
Mr. Armstrong helped us find our child's learning style and our 12 year blossomed from an insecure, discouraged and failing student to a confident, enthusiastic young person who now finds joy in learning. This book shows that any child CAN learn, and shows the reader how to make it happen.
